How To Hide A Drive In Windows

Here is a short tutorial on how you can hide a drive/ disk partition in Windows. I used it to hide a drive in Windows XP and it works great. You do not need any software for this purpose. Follow these instructions to hide a drive in Windows.

  • Go in Run > Start and type “diskpart”.
  • Type “list volume” in new Window and press Enter. You will see a list of your hard drive partitions and other details.
  • Now let’s say we want to hide “h” drive here. Type “select volume h” and press Enter.
  • Now type “remove letter h” and this H drive is now deleted.

You can check in My Computer that “H” drive is not showing anymore and is removed. You can always bring this removed “H” drive back.
To unhide or bring back the hidden drive. Go to Run > Start and type “diskpart” and now type “assign letter h” (instead of “remove letter h”) and hit Enter.

The “H” drive is back and will show in your My Computer Window.
